After the success of their first episodic series developers DONTNOD Entertainment have finally announced that another Life is Strange game is in the works.
Posting the special message via video and on their official website, the statement read “We also revealed a key piece of information that many of you have been waiting some time for now – we can indeed confirm that the original Life is Strange team at DONTNOD are working on a brand new Life is Strange game. We can’t wait to tell you all about it when the time is right, but for now we are hard at work ensuring it is the very best game we can create. We’re really thankful for your patience thus far and ask for a bit more time. The new game will not be at E3 in June this year but we will be watching the show alongside you all and wish everyone good luck!”
But, this leaves us to wonder what exactly will Life is Strange 2 entail? We already know that it will be a separate story but will it include two angst ridden teens, thrilling moments that rely on a single quickly made choice or a game that goes in the opposite direction of everything the first one was?
Due to the fact that this information is currently limited let’s take a look at some interesting theories fans have created about season one which can be found on the Life is Strange wikia page, AND whether or not maybe they will play some type of part in any future Life is Strange titles. Warning — If you are yet to play the game, this article will have ** SPOILERS ** in it.
Fan Theory #1 | Max’s Powers Infinite Universes
Instead of Max’s power being attached to the ability to rewind time, one fan has stated that they think she can instead warp to another universe where “the events of what she tries to undo has not happened yet. This theory would explain why no one ever notices her teleporting, as the other universe would automatically provide a logical reason for her being in that particular place.” This is an interesting theory an even though it would be logical for her to be there anyway due to the rewind, it would act as a good explanation as to why no one ever notices anything, that and the fact that there would be numerous timelines that already existed, all with different outcomes, taken actions and harsh repercussions.
Fan Theory #2 | Rachel Amber & The Doe
One theory suggests that the Ghost Doe which Max comes into contact with on various occasion’s isn’t a sprint animal and instead is the spirit of Rachel Amber, this is due to the fact that the Doe disappears at the end of Episode 4 once Max and Chloe actually find her body. This correlates well, because the Doe does seem to guide Max throughout the game, appearing only at specific moments.
Fan Theory #3 | The Homeless Women
Some fans have suggested that the Homeless Lady encountered in the game isn’t just a random character and instead, is Max from an alternative timeline. This was pointed out when fans noticed a few similarities between Max and the women, including what cereal she eats and also her appearance, which has a striking resemblance to Max when you look at things like the gap between her lips and facial structure.
Fan Theory #4 | Jefferson’s Powers & Knowledge of Max’s “Gift”
When looking at Jefferson there is many angles and speculations that can be created surrounding his character, even more so when looking at what type of involvement he had in the direction of the games story, but fans have dug deep and think this involvement actually carries further than we are shown. There are people who believe that like Max, Jefferson also had his own set of time warping powers, explaining why he chose to sedate Max at the end of episode 4 and how he somehow ended up at the Junkyard with such haste after leaving the Vortex Club. Fans also believe that when Jefferson is talking about Max’s gift during the game, that he is actually referring to her abilities, this makes him seem even creepier than he already was.
Last but not least, and most amusingly we have another theory which pins Warren as a psychopathic creep instead of this cheerful kind dude that Max is into.
Fan Theory #5 | Warren is a Violent Stalker (Lmaoooooooooooo)
When looking at his reaction against Nathan further down the track of the game and piecing together little things players noticed about Warren, some gamers have come to the conclusion that he’s crazy and harbors a darker side than the game sets out to show in regular circumstances. This was created when looking at things such as Warren’s taste in movies, as he enjoys things that are graphic, brutal or even extremely pornographic. In the second episode of the game, if you peer out of Max’s window, you’ll also find that Warren quickly ducks behind a corner, leading fans to think that he was in fact, stalking her, and to polish off this theory, there is the fact that Max finds a photo of herself and Warren in his locker in the boy’s changing room, her surprise maybe highlighting that this isn’t something they took together, and more so he edited the both of them into. (Although plausible, I can’t stop laughing at this theory, it’s one of the best.)
So, we may not know what Season 2 of Life is Strange will bring, but we do have some kick ass theories that really throw the original title through the works, breaking down characters, highlighting hidden crazy boyfriends and even showing that maybe there’s more to the universe of Life is Strange through hidden oracles and symbolism.
